All About Spa Packs

Since the creation of the personal spa, the spa pack has been part of your hot tub in some form or another. In the beginning, it was made of relays and air switches, turning things on and off. Nowadays, the brain of your spa is circuit boards and wires, controlling everything from your filtration system to your lights and everything in between.

Where Your Spa Pack Is Located on Your Hot Tub

When looking for your spa pack on your hot tub, you will find it located on the inside of the shell of your spa, behind the wood panels, connected to your pump and heater in some way. These units are designed with the connectors and power box being water-tight, so water is prevented from coming in direct contact with the electrical unit. Depending on the size of your hot tub and pump location, the heating unit may not be part of the control pack, but should be relatively close by. In North America, the spa pack will run on either 120V or 240V, and it is extremely important to ensure you have the unit converted to the voltage required.

Choosing the Right Spa Pack for Your Hot Tub

When selecting a new spa pack, look at the systems it will be controlling. You don't want to overload your control system trying to run too many things. As each hot tub is different with the features it includes (number of pumps, if it has an ozonator and/or a blower, the filtration system, lights, etc.), you must select the spa pack that can run all the systems required. Once you’ve determined what will be controlled by your spa pack, you can now narrow down which control system you will need.

Why a Properly Functioning Spa Pack Matters

The spa pack of your hot tub may be just one part of many parts that make your hot tub a wonderful bubbly soak, but keeping it in good condition and having the correct one is the difference between a bucket of water and a backyard oasis.
